Walnut Acres values the fine arts as part of a well-rounded education. Music involves both creative right- brain activities and academic left -brain activities. Students receive two music lessons per week, which integrates the whole-brain approach. All other schools in the district have a music specialist one day a week. It is because of our parents’ support that Walnut Acres is able to provide music two times per week.

GENERAL MUSIC CLASSES
Each 1st through 5th grade class receives a half hour music session in the Music Room with Sherri Bensen, where the Music Common Core Standards are addressed.  Students explore music fundamentals, movement and dance and various classroom instruments. They learn the music of different cultures, and learn how music reflects, as well as shapes, history.

Third grade students engage in an entire year of learning to play the precorder, which also solidifies their ability to read music. The year culminates in a grade level concert, featuring the precorder, singing and dance.
